The world’s first Microtonal Guitar Festival took place on December 13, at the İTÜ Maçka Campus. The festival was organized in honor of the 20th anniversary of the İTÜ Dr. Erol Üçer Music Center for Advanced research (MİAM.) Performances were made by Grammy winner John Schneider, Prof. Jürgen Ruck from the Würzburg Music University, Spanish guitarist Fernando Perez and a dual performance by Tolgahan Çoğulu and Sinan Ayyıldız. Prof. Tolgahan Çoğulu, who developed an accordable microtonal guitar in 2008 within the structure of MİAM, stated during his evaluation of the festival that the microtonal guitar had become internationally recognized through its training, competition, festival, albums and methods.
